INCENTIVES
The Federal Government currently offers a 30% Investment Tax Credit and allows for Accelerated Depreciation (5 year MACRS). At the local level, the incentives and rebates vary from state to state, and sometimes even among utilities. New York, via NYSERDA (New York Energy Research and evelopment Authority) and certain utilities offer cash rebates of 20-40% of project cost. Alternatively, there are SREC driven markets (ie. New Jersey and Massachusetts). Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) are earned for every one thousand kilowatts hours of energy generated and these “credits” trade freely meriting project income to drive quick paybacks and solid project investment returns.
